Snecma has released further details of the M123 engine being considered as a development for future regional jet programmes (Flight International, 13-19 March).

The proposed engine is based on the military M88-2 core and could also form the basis for a CFM56 replacement. General Electric (GE), Snecma's partner on the CFM International programme, is also involved in the studies.

Snecma technical director Jacques Rossingol says the M123 would have a design thrust level of around 72kN (16,000lb) but could be developed to cover a thrust range from 63kN to more than 100kN.

The extended power-range capability is similar to that of the Rolls-Royce/BMW BR700 family which, in its two larger versions - the BR715...
