Abstract :

Independent TV stations are coping with the weak economy by consolidating. This consolidation is taking the form of local marketing agreements, joint sales agreements, time leasing and buyouts. The absence of FCC rules barring these deals has been a spur. The benefits of consolidation are a stronger advertising market, higher numbers in children's demographic and better reach. One clear example of the advantages of consolidation is the Oklahoma City market.
