With the passing of music pioneer Bob Moog last week, there's no better time to see Hans Fjellstad's thoroughly delightful 2004 documentary about the man and the way he changed music.
Moog was an inventor who began experimenting with electronic music back in the 1940s, and his analog Moog synthesizer was credited (and blamed) for revolutionizing music. The film includes testimonials from Moog enthusiasts like Rick Wakeman and Stereolab, as well as great live footage of the festival known as "MoogFest."
But most captivating is the man himself, a friendly, self-deprecating tech guy who clearly has an almost spiritual bond with his creation. Some might wish that such a visionary inventor would have a more magnetic personality, but I thought his genial geekiness gives the film its...
