Abstract :

Cady Noland uses the artifacts of the 20th century to depict the hopelessness of the search for the American dream. The artifacts of locomotion are used to portray the materialistic economy of American society as an end in itself, with values focusing on the event of social and economic mobility. Silver, aluminum and steel are prominent materials in Noland's art, emphasizing the consumerist attitude of American society.
