CHICAGO -- The Perry Drug Stores logo has all but disappeared from Chicago-land's retail landscape, following the takeover of 14 former Perry stores by their former owner and their wholesale supplier.

McKesson Corp. and Pontiac, Mich.-based Perry Drug Stores took control of the stores in March, and have since sold eight of the units to independent operators--in most cases to former managers--and closed another two. Four more stores remain on the selling block and should be disposed of by mid-June, according to Pat Edgerton, vice president of credit for San Francisco-based McKesson.
