Aug. 18--Shane Janecka put himself in the right place at the right time this summer.

After completing his freshman season at Wharton County Junior College, Janecka began the summer pitching for the Schulenburg Merchants of the South Central Texas Amateur League.

At the suggestion of Schulenburg teammate Jeremy Fikac, Janecka tried out for the Seguin Steelers. Janecka not only made the team and had the opportunity to pitch in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., but he also attracted the attention of Texas-Pan American coach Willie Gawlik.

Gawlik offered Janecka a scholarship and the Weimar graduate recently signed a letter-of-intent to attend the Division I-A school in Edinburg.
