Abstract :
Russian aircraft manufacturer Saratov Aviation Plant is gearing up to flight-test a scaled-down, radio-controlled model of its Ekip 'flying saucer' lifting-body craft. This revolutionary vehicle makes use of boundary-layer control, reaction-control thrusters, ground-effect flight and air-cushion landing gear. The program was financed originally by the Russian government, but is now drawing some support from the private sector. It is also attracting the interest of Western companies.
