Telecommunications and high-tech companies in British Columbia are looking to pick up new work in the wake of yesterday&#39s announced breakup of B.C. Systems Corp., which has monopolized computer services and some telephone services to the provincial government for 18 years.

Specific opportunities for private companies are expected to include the development and operation of extensive data and phone networks within the province, and development of software for various ministries.

&#34Anything that can be outside government should be outside government,&#34 said Daniel Friedmann, president and chief executive officer of MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.
