ROBBIE Coltrane, star of ITV's Cracker, is pitched against three performers from BBC2's adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit for best actor in next month's British Academy awards, writes Andrew Culf.

He faces competition from Pete Postlethwaite, Paul Scofield and Tom Wilkinson in the nominations for the television awards, which were published yesterday.

The Lloyds Bank Bafta Production and Performance Awards, regarded as the British version of the Oscars, will be presented at the London Palladium, and screened on BBC1 on April 23.
