Abstract :

Television news departments are experiencing an incredible boom in hiring as more local affiliates add or expand existing news departments. Sixty percent of TV news departments increased staff levels in 1995, compared to only 7% that decreased staff. Most in-demand are photographers, reporters and producers. Reasons for the boom in hiring, and trends in network affiliation, are dsicussed.
