Abstract :

Samsung Electronics America's $4,299 SENS 810 notebook computer is based on a 120MHz Pentium processor and comes with 16MB of EDO DRAM expandable to 40MB, and 256KB of pipelined-burst external cache. Also available are models with 100MHz and 133MHz Pentiums, and a machine with a 150MHz Pentium is expected soon. The machine's keyboard adjusts outward and pivots to match more closely the natural alignment of the user's wrists. The graphics subsystem is based on a 32-bit Cirrus Logic PCI chip set rather than a 64-bit chip set, so the machine's performance on the Graphics WinMark 96 test was below average. The 1.2GB Toshiba hard drive had an above-average score on the Disk WinMark 96 test, however, and the system's CPUmark score was among the leaders in the product category. The lithium-ion battery lasted three hours on the WinDrain test that runs the computer with all power-saving features turned off. The machine weighs 8.7 pounds with the CD-ROM drive and measures 9.6 by 11.7 by 2.5 inches.
