Abstract :

A biennial historic index of real estate values in Herengracht, Amsterdam for the period 1628 to 1973 is presented. Herengracht was selected due to the consistency in the quality of the buildings built on the said canal. Empirical analysis reveal that, for the said period, there is a nominal biennial increase of 1.8% and a real increase of 0.5%. The index's real value in 1973 only doubled since 1628.
