Abstract :

Economic factors have led to the elimination of the phlebotomy position in many hospitals. Cross-training has become a widespread practice in an effort to increase the skills and job opportunities of phlebotomists. Included in their expanded roles are electrocardiogram respiratory and physical therapy, hence they are currently referred to as patient care technicians (PCT). The multiskilled PCTs do not only gain additional earnings, but also derive greater job satisfaction compared to the one-skilled phlebotomist. However, quality of job performance is an issue of concern.
