An East Coast radio company is making its West Coast debut with the acquisition of two local FM stations.
Radio One Inc., based in Lanham, Md., has signed an agreement to purchase KZSF-FM of San Francisco, which was formerly KJAZ-FM, and KZWC-FM of Concord from Z-Spanish Radio Network Inc. for $22 million.
Radio One plans to convert the two stations from their Spanish language format to contemporary music by the end of March, 1998.
Formed in 1980, Radio One owns 17 radio stations, primarily in the Atlanta, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and most recently Detroit areas.
This is the company's first foray into the West Coast market.
