Abstract :
The late Robert K. Thomas made significant contributions to the growth of American Indian studies as an academic discipline. Raised by his grandmother in the traditional Cherokee custom in Oklahoma, he served as a director and professor of American Indian studies at the University of Arizona and helped organize the American Indian studies segment of the Western Social Science Assn Conference every year. He was a social scientist, philosopher, activist, teacher and spiritual leader. Thomas died in 1991.
