Abstract :

KMOV (Channel 4) is steadily gaining a dominant position in the St Louis, MO, news broadcasting market, making it a contender and a serious threat to the leading KSDK (Channel 5). Nielsen ratings for Nov 1997 show that viewers are transferring to Channel 4 during the 5 PM, 6 PM and 10 PM time slots. Meanwhile, KTVI (Channel 2) maintains a stable audience share in most competitive news hours. In comparison, KDNL (Channel 30) continues to perform poorly.
