The mythical Gwazi beast will come alive at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Fla., during the parks 40th anniversary season in 1999.
Taking the shape of twin dueling wooden coasters, the beast with both a lion's head and a tigers head will "attack itself" six times during the ride. Groundbreaking for the behemoth woodie took place July 15.
Great Coasters International will build the coaster, which will contain more than one million running feet of lumber. GCI's Michael Boodley designed the ride with input from Busch Entertainment's Mark Rose. Busch officials would not release construction costs, only saying it was a multi-million dollar project.
