Abstract :

Scholarly studies on French feminism in the US baffle French women in that the Americans seem to be portraying a totally different movement and country. French feminists point out that American scholars are seeing themselves in their own theories and not really the French women whom they are studying. Although both feminist studies are rooted in women's opposition to a restrictive patriarchal society, the feminism that originated in France was influenced more by socialist perceptions. In contrast, the American version traces certain concepts to racist struggles.
