Abstract :

Many behavior analysts reject the notion of social constructionism, citing its lack of commitment to rigorous empirical standards as the reason. Many also view social constructionism as decidedly mentalistic. The following article demonstrates similarities between a particular approach of social constructionism (sociological social constructionism) and behavior analysis. Specifically, the following article demonstrates how sociological social constructionists and behavior analysts approach the creation and maintenance of social order through the use of social constructions. Also discussed is how behavior analysis can serve to empirically ground sociological social constructionism. Keywords: social constructionism, behavior analytic, mentalistic, empirical grounding
