Brazil, Germany win in Women's World Cup

WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Brazil and Germany both remained undefeated as they rolled into the quarterfinals with wins Wednesday in the Women's World Cup.

Brazil (3-0) completed its march through Group B with a 4-1 victory over Norway in Washington and awaits the second-place finisher in Group A, which includes the United States, the defending champion.

Germany (3-0) stormed to a 3-0 victory over Japan in Columbus, Ohio. It awaits the second-place finisher in Group D.

Also moving into the quarterfinals were France and Canada, both of whom won their matches Wednesday.

France (2-1) advanced with a 1-0 win over Korea in Washington and await the winner of Group A.

Canada claimed second place in Group C with a 3-0 victory over hapless, winless Argentina. Canada (2-1) awaits the winner of Group D.

The quarterfinals will be played next Wednesday in Foxboro, Massachusetts and next Thursday in Portland, Oregon.
