Abstract :

This study was planned for studying the effect of some plant extracts in vitro on fascioliasis in goats, and comparison between the plant extracts and drug (TCBZ) that commonly found in the market used for fascioliasis treatment. In vitro, determination the susceptibility of adult flukes Fasciola spp. to ethanolic extracts of Calligonum comosum at different concentrations (10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 [micro]g/ml) and triclabendazole (TCBZ 20 [micro]g/ml) for 24 h incubation period by using light microscope and scanning electron microscope. Result revealed that, all four concentrations caused tegumental alterations such as, swelling of oral and ventral suckers, swelling of the tegument, disappearance of spines, appearance of spine socket, folding and furrowing of the tegument depending on the concentration level and the high efficacy observed first in Calligonum comosum followed by TCBZ. KEYWORDS: Calligonum comosum, fascioliasis, TCBZ, Helminthes, triclabendazole and goat.
