NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices on a petition filed by Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, urging the repeal of at least 144 laws that are discriminatory against those affected by leprosy, a curable disease, hence anachronistic of our times.
A bench, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, issued notices after hearing senior advocate Raju Ramachandran who drew its attention to the laws.
Though the Law Commission recommended that these laws be repealed, only one had been so far repealed, the senior advocate argued.
