Abstract :

The 1992 presidential campaign involved the issue of "character" for Bill Clinton. The issue revolved around the proprieties of the Clintons in relation the the Whitewater land deals during the first months of his presidency. A shift in focus occurred in 1994, when the president's sex life and inability to "come clean" about it became a significant subject of interest.
