Abstract :

The role of school counselors must change in various ways to make social advocacy its primary component. All students should be able to realistically aspire to high academic achievement. School counselors can be catalysts for getting rid of institutional barriers that keep minority and underprivileged youth from doing as well academically as more advantaged peers do.
