Abstract :

The history of the clinical laboratory is presented. In mid-19th century, the European physicians used laboratories operated by pharmacists. At the start of the 20th century, clinical laboratories were endowed with the ability to identify and cure disease with the improvement in diagnostic methods and discovery of new drugs. Clinical laboratories have then evolved into permanent institutions within hospitals as innovative tools were developed as a result of advances in physics.
