All roads lead to Virginia, Co Cavan on the 30 August when one of Ireland's favourite one-day show, will take place.
This years show promises to be bigger and better than ever with a total prize fund of over pounds 27,000, three All Ireland finals, six qualifiers for other National Championships as well as a varied show-jumping programme. Entries are coming in form all over the country for the livestock, home industries, farm and garden produce classes and the standard is expected to be at its usually high level.
The 60th Annual Show has highlights which include the All Ireland Final of the Bailey's Irish Championship Dairy Cow competition, with a prize fund of pounds 6,500 the final of the Simmental X heifer competition, with pounds 2,000 in prize money, the Liffey Meats pounds 1,500 Champion beef Bullock champion, the North Eastern Club - F.B.D Simmental championship.
The sheep section has classes for Vendeen Beltex, Texel and Suffolk crossbred and pure-bred breeds. Dogs and goats again make an entrance to the show this year.
The new show-jumping section sub committee presents a total prize fund of pounds 1,800. Top prizes of pounds 1,000 in Fleetword ABC event, the Guinness and harp Classic Qualifiers as well as .90m horses.
For the third year running the "skills of the year" competition recalls the ballroom of romance as 21 guilds from Monaghan, Cavan and Meath celebrate the end of the ballroom era as they compete for the P McEvoy Spar, Virginia sponsored pounds 300 prize fund.
The younger people are not forgotten this year. There is children's section with new classes in cookery, arts and crafts. An overall prize of pounds 250 and trophy will be awarded to the school class with the greatest number of points and pounds 100 to the runner up school, kindly sponsored by Ramor Construction Ltd,...
