comedy special Success without a Sex Tape is an unlikely addition to Radio 4's usual Sunday early evening stand-up comedy line-up. Will the station's listeners, finishing off the washing up after dinner, be ready for a dissection of the pros and cons of releasing a sex tape - typically footage of a celebrity engaged in an intimate act that finds its way onto social media?
"It stemmed from the idea that you cannot be successful today without releasing a sex tape," says the 44-year-old Irish comedian. "It seems the way forward in life is to be pushing yourself, performing online, creating content and putting everything out there. If you're not doing a sex tape, you might as well forget about it. The more I dug into that idea, the funnier I found it. You're screwed if you don't want to do one.
"Obviously I'm going to be talking about sex," she explains. "But it's Radio 4. I've worked really
hard to say things in a delicate way. You can get across an awful lot by being playful with your language. You don't have to be explicit about everything. People will get what you're talking about."
