Abstract :
A business environment characterized by deregulation, mergers, new technologies, and other change factors contributes to uncertainty for organizations and individuals within them. Allowance must be made for transition from old attachments and patterns to new circumstances. Those individuals with the following key skills are best able to cope with change: commitment or involvement with work, sense of personal power or control, view of change as opportunity, and sense of connections with others. A four-phase model is described which shows a common pattern of organizational change or transition: denial, commitment, resistance, and exploration.
