Abstract :

Tandy Corp's $1,000 Tandy 1100 FD is a 'no-frills' notebook-sized computer whose main advantage is its low price. It performs well and has a clear, readable nonbacklit screen, but is somewhat ungainly and weighs 6.4 pounds. The 1100 FD has an 8 MHz NEC V20 processor; a 720Kbyte 3.5-inch floppy drive; and 640Kbytes of RAM. Its 7.75-inch x 4.75-inch screen is CGA-compatible but displays gray scales poorly and is only updated one line at a time. The keyboard has 84 small keys, including 'chiclet' function keys. Tandy builds DOS 3.3, DeskMate Desktop and DeskMate Text into ROM, supplying other DeskMate applications free on floppy disks.
