LOSS OF A BRITISH STEAMER-TEN MEN DROWNED. A telegram froem Lloyd's agent at Colombo yesterday states that the steamer Valetta reports that the steamer Sultan has foundered 100 miles east of Socotra. Ten natives were drowned. The Valetta landed the officers and crew and 52 pilgrims at Colombo The Sultan left Jeddah on May 19 for Calcutta. She was built at Fairfield. in 1874, and is registered in Bombay. BRITISH SHIP ON FIRE. All efforts to float the British ship Micronesia, which was beached at Deal on fire yesterday, have failed. Another attempt was to be made at midnight. The foremast has been taken out of the vessel, and as soon as floated will be towed to Tilbury Docks. ACCIDENT TO A CLASCOW STEAMER. The Glasgow steamer Effie Gray, 147 tons, put into Lochryan yesterday afternoon, having been compelled to break her voyage in consequence of an accident to her engines. The steamer left Ayr yesterday morning for Liandulas, Wales, and was off the Mull of Galloway when the accident occurred. The captain at once turned, and made for Lochryan. The steamer is now lying at the Stranraer roadsteads, and will require to be repaired before resuming her voyage. LIGHTHOUSE STORE STEAMER ASHORE. The steamer Angels, of Glasgow, with stores for' Island of Sanda lighthouse, hasgone ashore on the I Rhue Point, five miles south uf Campbaltown. The steamer Hayling, of Portsmouth, ashore on the Woolsenera, was towed off yesterday morning by the tug Rllewn and taken into Portsmouth Harbour. The schooner Alpha, of London, from North. fleet to Hull, proceeding down the river Thames yesterday orning ran on the sea wall just below Tilbury Ness Light. Will probably float next tid e. A telegram from Sulina states that an unsuccessful attempt was made yesterday afternoon to tow off the Duke of York, ashore below Foulcia. Arrangements are being made to lighten the steamer. The weather is very bad, and there is a north-easterly gale and rain. A telegram from Delagoa Bay states that the cable steamer John Pender, ashore at Loreuzo Marques, floated yesterday afternoon, all welt no damage. Will take discharged cable on board as soon as possible. The schooner Clarence G. Sinclair, Captain Sutherland, pavement laden, from Castlehill for Shields, was wrecked on the Island of Strowa at an early hour yesterday morning, and sank in deep water. The crew were saved wit their effects, but as the captain was being taken off, the vessel heeled over and sank. The vessel belonged to Thurse, and is said to be only partially insured.
