Nicholas Wright has returned to the Court after a year's absence to succced Roger Croucher as Director of The Theatre Upstairs. Nicholas Wright first joined the RoyaL Court in 1967 as casting director and later worked as an assistant director. In 1969 he became the first director of Te Theatre Upstairs where his productions have included Heathcote Williams' ACIDC Michael Smith's Captain Jack's Revenge and most recently, N. F. Simpson's Was He Anyione ?

The Royal Court's newv Resident Dramatist is Howard Brenton Nfnose appointment is sponsored by the Neville Blond Fund. Winner of the 1969 John Whiting Award, Howard Brenton has worked with the Brighton Combination, Portable Theatre and the Traverse Workshop. Four of his plays have been seen at theTheatre Upstairs -Revenge (1969), Christie in Love and Fruit (both 1970) and most recently, Hitler Dances. He is a member-of the Shoot writers group who wrote Layby and whose latest collective show, Englarid's Ireland opens in Amsterdam in September. Howard Brenton has just completed a rewriting of Measure for Measiure which William Gaskill is directing for the Northcote Theatre, Exeter.
