Sir Walter Nicholson. K.C.B., a director of Imperial Airways from 1930 to 1937. died at Whitehall Court, S.W., on February 28.
Walticr Frederic Nicholson. born on July 22, 1876. son of the late Mr. P. E. Nicholson, was educated at St. Paul's and at Balliol College. Oxford. He cntered the Civil Service in 1899, spending the next 21 years at the Admiralty. of which hc was assistant secretary in 1920. In April of that year it was annoiniced that the Secretary of State for Air had appointed him to be permanent secretary of the Air Miniistrv in successioni to Sir Ariltir Robinsofl. K.C.B. Ten years later the late Lord Thomson. theni Secretary of State for Air, nominated him to be Govecrumient director on thc. board of Imperial Airways. Limited. a position he held( unitil he retired in 1937.
