CANON A. D. TUPPER-CAREY

Canon A. D. Tupper-Carey, Chaplain to the King from 1938, and formerly Chaplain at Monte Carlo, died in London yesterday. _ - I

Born in 1866, son of the late Rev. T. Carey, lie.was educated at Eton, wlhere he was in Mr. -A. C: Ainger's' houise, anid at Christ Chur-ch, Oxford, wherc lie graduated witli second class hoQooirs in Modern I-listory in 1888, and obtained a second class in Theology the next year. After training at Cuddesclon Theological College lie W;as ordained in 1890 and became. curate of Leeds, wvhere lie stayed Lintil 1998. That year lie was appointel head of Christ Churchi Mission, Ploplar, anld in 1901 lie weit to Lowestoft as rector. Ii 1910 lie lef; to become canon residentiary of York, and in 1917 moved to Hudclerstield. where lie was vicar tintil 1924. He was an honorary canon of Wakefield from 1917 to 1924 and froni 1927 to 1930, and from 1931 had been Canon Enierituis. Other appointments he had held were those of Chaplain.at St. Rapliael, France, from 1925 to 1927. and S.P.G. secretarv, dioceses of Ripon, Wakefield, tind Bradford from 1927 to 1930. -Ile married, first, HIelen Mary, daughter of the Rev. .H. E. Chiapnian, rector of Donhead, St. Andrew. She died in 1938. Thev had two sons and tlihee aaiighters. Secondly, he married, in 1942, Ruth, widow of Mr. Frank Donner.
