PARIS, JAN. 8.
Gustave Bouvet, the Communist who is charged with having fired at the carriages of the Presidential procession during tbe fete of July 14 with the object of assassinating either M. Millerand or M. Poincare, came up for trial before the Seine Assizes. AL Gilbert was the presiding magistrate.
Bouvet, in a written statement, said that he had not acted in his personal interests, but according to his conscience. Police witnesses described the arrest and medical witnesses gave evidence declaring Bouvet mentally responsible.
Bouvet was this evening sentenced to five years' penal servitude to be followed by ten years' police supervision. As he was taken away by the warders the prisoner called out "Down with war! Vive ranarchie."
