FRAUD CHARGES OVER

WARSHIP "SALE"

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT

ROME, SEPr. 1

The Italian Ministry of Defence and the Admiralty were probablv as surprised as anyone to discover that one of their cruisers, even a very old one. had been offered for sale as scrap to a Milan industrialist by a group with no authority, it is stated. to dispose of the vessel. The offer is reported to have been accepted. After an inquiry, the documents with which the group convinced the industrialist of their rights were declared forgeries. This came too late to prevent the victim from paying a substantial sum in advance for the elderly warship Luigi Cadorna. Charges of fraud have been preferred.
