Mr. Anthony Raine Barker, the arntt and ardhitect, died oh Friday night at St Mary's Hospital, S:dcup, at ta1e sge of 82.
Barker was a painter in the traditional school of Eny ish w1ter-coloUr and also an enzraver E9nOgprher, and ctcher. He eaxb1bted for many Years at the Royal Acadetny, aqd exam-ples of hit work. acQuired for ttie nation, art in the Vctoria and Albert Mtieum and the British M1useum. Tbe Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, has a niumber of hbls Wotks, and he is reipresented in several othlr brovlinclal galltries.
Born at Hrrow in 18O. Barker first studied architeture, winning the Soane Medal of the Iistitute of Architects, arid was a Rotne Seholar. In late ysats his interest centted oti the reWr.tio of his fit=emith-century home, Watermilll House, Benendeh, Kerit, to whiph he devoted 30 years' work, mistlY with his ow habds, and which is a model of seholarly care. He was the allthor of two mdch-loved books for ohVldren, The Fairylafad Express and R-idden Gold. whiih he illusir*Wd '1N wood-outs.
In 1916 barker married Rittica Russell, of Chiebester, who sUrviveS him. He lea1es two childreil.
