LONDON

QUEEN ELIZABETH COLLEGE.-Sir George Allen has accepted the office of chairman of the council in succession to Sir John Atkins who, for reasons of health, has retired from the chairmanship which he has held continuously since 1922.

Sir John Atkins has been elected the first Fellow of the college in recognition of his record of service. He is still a member of the governing body, to which he was elected in 1912 and of which he has been chairman f&T 36 years.

SHEFFIELD

The Council of the university has conferred the title of Emeritus Professor of Zoology on Mr. L E S. Eastham, who retired recently after 26 years as Professor of Zoology.

HULL

The honorary degree of Doctor of Laws was conferred on Dr. C. W. de Kiewiet. President of the University of Rochester, and also of the Association of American Universities, at Hull University on Saturday. It was the first time that a degree congregation had been held at the university and the first time that one had been held especially for one recipienL Usually degree congregations are held at the City Hall.

Dr. D. B. Jelliffe Visiting Professor of Tropical Medicine at Tulane University. New Orleans, has been appointed to the U.N.I.C.EF. Chair of Paediatrics at Makerere College, University College of East Africa.
