ALTRINCHAM. Mr. D. M'Millan gave one of his ventriloquist entertainments on Thursday evening last, at the Town Hall, Altrincham. The audience—a good one—consisted ohiefly of schools, the most numerous of which was Mr. Thompson's, j of Bowdon. St. George's Schools, Altrincham.—On Sunday, the annual collections on behalf of the Sunday schools took place. In the morning the Rev. George London, incumbent, preached, and in the evening the Rev. W. Pollock, vicar of Bowdon. The collections amounted to £37 Bs. 4Jd. The number of scholars is upwards of 300. Lady Stamford's Birthday.—Tuesday being the birthday of Lady Stamford, all the scholars attending 1 the different Sunday schools in connection with the Church of England were liberally treated with refreshments at St. George's Church School. Altrincham. There were at least 300 scholars and upwards of 20 teachers. There was provided for them the following :—324 buns, 150 lbs. of currant bread, 7 lbs. of coffee, 16 lbs. of sugar, and 18 quarts of milk; afterwards a peck of nuts was distributed amongst them. The children seperated delighted with the treat. Accident.—One of those accidents which have so frequently happened in the neighbourhood of High-street and Dunham-road occurred on Friday evening, last week. About seven o'clock, Mr. Race, of the Stamford Arms Hotel, and a Mr. Dwerryhouse, were in a ptsoton belonging to Mr. Race, *>nd which was driven by him. They were driving at a slow pace, when on turning the road near Mr. Nome's yard, leading from Dunham-road into Highstreet, they met a cart, and not passing it in time, the two ran into one another. Mr. Dwerryhouse was thrown out with great force, with his head upon the edge of the curb stone. He was taken up insensible, and remained so for a short time, but recovered. His face was much cut in several places and bled very much. Mr. Race was thrown the other way against the cart, and he, too, had a cut on his face, but was not so much hurt as Mr. Dwerryhouse. Assistance came up, and after some difficulty the horse and carriage was righted. We are happy to say they have nearly recovered from the injury received. —flow long will it be before the new road from the Market-place to Dunhamroad will be finished, so that the public may pass along without danger ? Is it the fault of the commissioners or the surveyor that the road has not been finished long since? We perceive the work is at a stand still again. We are afraid more lives will be lost before the new road is completed. : ASHTON AND STALYBRIDGE. The Mayoralty of Ashton.—Either Alderman Gait or Councillor B. M. Kenworth is likely to succeed Hugh Mason, Esq. The Stalybridge Mayoralty—There is no doubt that Councilor Thomas Hadfield Sidebottom will be elected mayor in November. Keeping a Ferocious Dog.—At the Stalybridge Borough Ceurt on, Monday, Andrew Spence, a wellknown " rough," was committed...
