Kalayna Price is a writer and novelist based in Lexington, South Carolina. A writer of urban and dark fantasy fiction, she traces her interest in the genre to age ten, when she discovered her father's collection of fantasy fiction.

Price is the author of two dark fantasy/urban fantasy series: the "Haven" series and the "Alex Craft" series. The "Haven" series centers on Kita Nekai, a shapeshifter who morphs into the form of a tabby kitten. Kita's native world is populated by imposing creatures such as lions and tigers, but she is on the run from other members of her race and from responsibilities that loom large in her life. Her flight to the world of humans was also prompted by being forbidden to marry the man she loves. In her cat form, she is able to successfully hide among the felines of the mortal world. In the first book of the series, Once Bitten, Kita's already fantastical life is changed dramatically when she is attacked and bitten by a vampire.
