We regret to announce (he death, which occurred yesterday morning at Gerrard's-cmas, of MajorGeneral Edward Henry Courtney, R E., C.V.O., Governor of the Military Knights of Windsor. General Courtney, who would have completed his *"7thvenron Aun'6 was the eldest Bon of the late party s ecrvicc. Educated at Sir Roger CholmonAcademy, Woolwich, he joined the Royal Engineers in 1855, and thmo yoars later was engaged in the Chinese War of 1856-60. In that campaign he took part in the action at Shcktseng, the capture of the Peiho Forts, the engagements at Sinho and Tangkn, the siege and capture of the Taku Forts, and the capture of Pekin. General Courtney was on the staff of the Royal Engineers until the conclusion of peace. Chinese medal with two clasps. Returning to England in 1862. General Courtney was at ones employed on the Ordnance Survey...
