t Rear-Adml. Sir Basil Vernon Brooke. Treasurer to the Queen since 1937. who died in London early yesterday, aged 69. had been a member of the Royal Household for over 20 years. He joined the Royal Navy in 1892. retired in 1922. and was Comptroller and Equerry to the King when Duke of York from 1924 until 1937. His association with the Royal family began when, as first lieutenant at the Royal Naval College. Osborne, he gave the King and Duke of Wimdsor their first lessons in seamanship. Since 1937 he had also been Groom in Waiting and Extra Equerry to the King. During the war he became Commander of the Upper Thames Patrol. In 1943 he was made G.C.V.O. His bnly son. Lt....
