RECOGNITION OF GALLANTRY.
An interesting ceremony was performed at Southend, Kin tyre, 'on Thursday, when Mr Murdoch, Secretary of the Northern Lighthouse Board, presented the National Lifeboat Association's silver medal to Mr Daniel Dempsey, the Sanda Lighthouse boatman, and his two sons, Daniel and Alexander, for saving tbe master and crew of the schooner Sovereign, of Campbeltown, which was wrecked on Sanda Island last Christmas morning. Tho rescue was a most hazardous one, tbe men battling with the waves for three hours before being able to accomplish it, and Dempsey, senior, being washed from his small boat and nearly while proceeding to the wreck. The ceremony took place in the Argyll Hotel, Southend, before a representative Mr Murdoch referred to Dempsey'a previous record of gallantry, he having been instrumental in saving a great many lives from wrecks in the neighbourhood.
