Walt Whitman

Nationality: American
A classic American poet, Walt Whitman is known for his collection Leaves of Grass, which he revised until his death. It is famous for its celebration of the speaker's life and personhood, most notably in the poem "Song of Myself."

Kate Chopin's novel The Awakening is widely analyzed by feminist scholars. It tells the story of Edna, a woman who explores identities beyond those of wife and mother. Chopin's writing techniques also influenced those used by future modernist writers.
