Maxis Offers New Live-Action CD-ROM Starring Edward James Olmos

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ Maxis (Nasdaq: MXIS), the interactive entertainment publisher best known for SimCity, today announced the release of The Crystal Skull, a CD-ROM adventure set in ancient Mexico. Edward James Olmos ("Miami Vice," "Blade Runner"), who plays the role of the player's mentor throughout the game, leads off The Crystal Skull's cast of 50 characters.

"With three CDs worth of locations to explore, people to meet and puzzles to solve, The Crystal Skull will give adventure gamers hours of enjoyment," said Sam Poole, Maxis' president and CEO.

As the game begins, the Aztec emperor's closest advisors plot to overthrow the kingdom. The Emperor has a dream in which a magical skull, made of pure crystal, is presented to him by a handsome youth. In the dream, images of strange and horrible creatures play within the skull. He awakens from his dream, sensing that the skull could hold the key to the future of the kingdom, and calls upon the player to retrieve the mysterious artifact. The player will face evil spirits, mythic monsters and deadly traps on the quest for The Crystal Skull.

The Crystal Skull's puzzles, many based on the rich history and mythology of the ancient cultures of Mesoamerica, include logic challenges, inventory-based riddles, and arcade-like games. Edward James Olmos' character, the Shaman, serves as the player's guide in the game -- offering hints when puzzles prove too difficult.

The Crystal Skull is a hybrid three CD set that can be played on Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or the Macintosh operating systems. The game will be available at an estimated street price of $29.95.
