PARIS: The second day of the spring-summer Paris ready-to-wear fashion shows suggests that the designer world is still feeling the effects of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US.

Although the fashion collections are conceived months ahead, Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto's stark minimalism was in tune with the subdued mood yesterday. And even the sexy outfits from British designer Alexander McQueen were shown without some of the showy trappings of past events.

``Certainly there is a different mood,'' said Suzy Menkes, fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune. ``Perhaps it's something that's been brewing for some time because so many of the shows had become over-the-top.''
