SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Prepare for blood and carnage! Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and id Software announced today that Hexen II, Raven Software's highly anticipated 3-D action/role-playing game, will be available in retail outlets this week across the United States and Canada.
The sequel to the popular title Hexen: Beyond Heretic, Hexen II challenges players to bludgeon their way through four demon-infested worlds in order to test their skills. As the Necromancer, the Assassin, the Crusader or the Paladin, gamers inflict brutal pain and death on their enemies with swords, daggers, wands, staves and spells as they battle as one of four classes.
"Hexen II is destined to become one of the defining titles for the action/role-playing genre," states Bobby Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc. "Featuring an enhanced version of the Quake engine, the game offers stunning realistic environments, authentic-looking levels and truly immersive single and multi-player gameplay that will blow gamers away."
Hexen II features 30 levels, divided into four distinct worlds -- a Medieval town and castle, a Roman villa, Egyptian Pyramids and Meso-American ruins. Possessing distinct spells, powers and weapons, players confront the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse and their Hell-spawned legions as they attempt to defeat the last known Serpent Rider, Eidolon.
"While Hexen II extends the classic storyline of Hexen: Beyond Heretic, this sequel makes the gaming experience new and surprising each time," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. "With four character classes that offer differences such as running and attacking speeds, a total arsenal of 32 weapons, and choices for different skill levels, gamers will encounter challenging and exciting gameplay each time."
Hexen II is the sequel to Raven and id Software's hit title Hexen: Beyond Heretic which has sold over a quarter of a million copies worldwide. The new game was developed by Raven Software with id Software serving as publisher.
