CLOSE to 120 babies were welcomed to Townsville and thousands of locals lapped up perfect weather at the 2014 Eco Fiesta at Queens Gardens.

The free community event, which focuses on sustainability and environmental themes, featured a plenty of entertainment for the whole family yesterday.

There was an ethical eco fashion clothes swap, live entertainment including didgeridoo-meets- drum-and-bass outfit EMDEE, environmentally sustainable workshops and - of course - the Welcoming Babies Ceremony.

"There were quite a lot of babies which was lovely to see," Community and Culture Committee chairwoman Sue Blom said.

"The whole event was very well supported. It was such a beautiful day in Townsville."It's always well supported, but this year it was extremely well supported."
