NEW YORK * Dozens of organizations, including several based in New York, are collaborating to hold the People's Climate March, an event slated for Sept. 20-21 in New York City.

Other entities involved include international nongovernmental organizations, grassroots networks, churches and faith organizations.

Timed to coincide with the U.N. Climate Summit at the United Nations Sept. 23, the purpose of the march is to give people an opportunity to "demand a world with an economy that works for people and the planet. A world with jobs, clean air, and healthy communities for all. A world safe from the ravages of climate change," according to the group's website, peoplesclimatemarch.org.

Discussions are underway with New York City regarding permits, routes and locations, but the website states the march will be 2 to 3 miles in Manhattan. The People's Climate March is also planning lead-up events, such as speakers' tours, train ings, art-builds, lectures, teach-ins and related demonstrations.
