Abstract :

Aim: The study was conducted to determine midwifery students' considerations regarding the choice of profession, professional perspectives, professional motivation levels and the factors affecting their motivation. Methods: The sample of this descriptive study comprised 220 first-, second-, third- and fourth-year students studying at the Department of Midwifery Faculty of Health Sciences of a state University. To collect data, the Personal Information Form questioning socio-demographic characteristics of the students and Motivation Sources and Problems Scale were used. To analyze the data, percentage distribution, analysis of variance (ANOVA), the Student's t-test, the Kruskal-Wallis, the Mann-Whitney U test, the Tukey test and Bonferroni-corrected Mann-Whitney U test were used. Results: In this study, it was found that 59.5% of the students placed midwifery in their first 10 career choices. Other results showed that 47.3% of the students chose it willingly, while 69.1% wanted to choose another profession. In addition, 74.5% considered midwifery an appropriate profession for themselves, 73.2% somewhat agreed to the community's point of view, 44.5% had somewhat positive views about midwifery before starting school, 75.5% had positive views about midwifery after starting school, and 66.8% considered midwifery a difficult profession. In this study, the comparison of the students' mean scores in terms of their school years revealed a statistically significant Conclusion: The first year of education affected the students' professional motivation positively. It is recommended that students starting university education be informed of the pros and cons of midwifery, be motivated to choose a career which they consider appropriate for themselves and that the fourth-year students be provided with training about professional motivation. Amac: Calisma ebelik bolomo ogrencilerinin meslek secimine yonelik dosonceleri, meslege bakis acilari, mesleki godolenme dozeyleri ve godolenmeyi etkileyen faktorlerin belirlenmesi amaci ile yapilmistir. Yontem: Tanimlayici tordeki calismanin orneklemini; Ic Anadolu Bolgesi'nde lisans egitimi verilen bir devlet oniversitesinin Saglik Bilimleri Fakoltesi Ebelik Bolomonon birinci, ikinci, oconco ve dordonco siniflarinda ogrenim gormekte olan 220 ogrenci olusturmustur. Verilerin toplanmasinda ogrencilerin sosyo-demografik ozelliklerini iceren Kisisel Bilgi Formu ile Godolenme Kaynaklari ve Sorunlari Olcegi kullanilmistir. Verilerin analizi; yozdelik dagilim, Varyans analizi (ANOVA) ve Student T testi, Kruskal Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, Tukey testi ve Bonferroni dozeltmeli Mann Whitney U testi ile yapilmistir. Bulgular: Calismada ogrencilerin %59.5'inin ilk 10 tercihinde ebelik bolomonon yer aldigi, %47.3'onon bolomo kendi istegi ile sectigi, %69.1'inin baska meslek secmeyi istedigi, %74.5'inin meslegi kendine uygun buldugu, %73.2'sinin toplumun bakis acisini kismen olumlu kabul ettigi, %44.5'inin okula baslamadan once meslegi kismen olumlu, %75.5'inin okula basladiktan sonra meslegi olumlu degerlendirdigi, %66.8'inin meslegi zor olarak degerlendirdigi bulundu. Ogrencilerin okuduklari sinifa gore icsel godolenme, olumsuz godolenme ve mesleksel ogrenme godolenmesi puan ortalamalari arasinda istatistiksel olarak anlamli fark oldugu (p 0.05) saptandi. Sonuc: Ogrencilerin egitim hayatinin birinci sinifinda olmasi mesleki godolenmeyi olumlu yonde etkilemektedir. Universite tercihi yapacak ogrencilere ebelik meslegi ile ilgili bilgilendirmelerin yapilmasi, meslegi kendine uygun bulanlarin bolomo tercih etmeleri, dordonco sinif ogrencilerinde mesleki godolenmeye yonelik calismalara yer verilmesi onerilmektedir.
