Abstract :

Evidence from the 1996 National Household Education Survey indicates that families who choose private schools or home schooling as their educational option are no less involved in civic activities than those who choose public schools. Anecdotal evidence has indicated private and home schooling insulates families from public responsibilities. Evidence, however, of voting records, participation in community organizations, financial contributions, and attendance at public meetings proves otherwise.
